Last month I spent about three weeks traveling across the country for 4 major competitions. I started by going to the west to Aspen to compete on the X-games course for the Aspen Open. The wind was really bad so I only got through the course one time and ended up in 5th place.I was just excited to survive such a gnarly course.
After Aspen I flew to California to compete in the U.S. GrandPrix at Mammoth. The weather was really bad unfortunately for about 4 days until we finally got to compete when the sun came out. We only got about 30 minutes of practice due to course closures but I was proud of myself to get through the course and land both of my runs. The jumps were the biggest jumps I hit this season with the last jump sizing at about 80ft.
After GrandPrix was over I went up to Tahoe with Joanna and Elin to catch our flight the next morning to Vermont for the U.S. Open! I thought the U.S. Open course was fun and impressive for the little amount of snow that Vermont has had this season.
I ended up landing a run and missing semi-finals by only a few spots. This season I've been always a few spots out from semi-finals so I am motivated to work hard and learn better tricks this summer. During the course of the week I discovered that the U.S. Open Big air/rail jam was the exact same set-up as the NIKE Chosen. I really wanted to compete so I talked to the event organizers and Cilka Sadar ended up giving me her spot to compete. I was really happy to be able to compete in the event!
I ended up being the only girl to hit the jump during qualifiers. It was super fun to compete under the lights and in front of a big crowd. The speed was a bit tricky compared to the heavenly event and I had to tuck and straight-line just to clear the jump. I didn't walk away with any money but it was a great experience. The night ended with an epic Redman and Method Man concert.
After the U.S. Open at Stratton it was off to compete in the U.S. Revolution Tour at Mt.Snow. The course was a bit small because of all the snow melting and speed was hard to keep after the afternoon hit.
I ended up qualifying 5th for the finals and finishing at 4th. I was just a few points shy of the podium but was stoked on the way I rode. I am now ranked number 52 overall in the world and number 39 for slopestyle. My goal for next year is to be in the top 15 so I can get invited to the open events!
I got invited to ride in Snowboarder Magazine's Miss Super park which will now be held in Squaw Valley April 23-26th. I am super excited to go back to Tahoe as Squaw Valley is where I used to ride in the Spring Time. I will also be competing in the Rockstar Throwback Throwdown this week at Breckenridge.
